It also contains some deeper implications and offers some excellent fuel for thought. The first couple of chapters were a little sluggish in terms of pacing, but the remainder of the book was incredibly action packed. It was a short book, but it spoke a lot, and the finale brilliantly set up the following book. It was quite gratifying.

This book transports you back to a time when you sat and listened to my grandmother’s stories. She was continually telling you about folklore. Lewis successfully caught the impression of a “new virgin country,” the innocence of a new universe and fresh creatures. As the sole book set in the Western Wild, this story has a wilder, tangier aroma, yet it still smells like Narnia – a rich, gratifying perfume that would make even the Bulldog “who resents things fiercely” agree that this is unquestionably Alive – and Narnia.
