And there’s no way reading anything about this book wouldn’t sway your expectations.
To reduce The silent patient audiobook to merely the surprise feels like an injustice. At its core, this is a perplexing murder mystery, complete with clues, suspicious characters, and red herrings. We are led in one direction, then another. But, as with any great enigma, the true enchantment is in its deception. While we are focused on one thing, something else is taking place. Finally, we can only marvel at the sheer chutzpah required to pull off such a spectacular achievement.
This genre’s novels are constantly marketed as amazing and shocking, yet most of the time they feel manufactured and ridiculous, with no payoff at the conclusion. But does The silent patient audiobook give! It’s so rewarding to read such a compulsively addictive novel, with surprises done so well that left audiences dumbfounded.
